SLATER PLOT
Catalogued April 1, 1975 by H. A. Dieter. Located 1/2 mile east of Wis.
60 on the present Glen F. Thomas farm, section 35, Town of Eagle. In
1874 this 160 acre farm was owned by B. P. Slater. This in an early
private plot, with only 4 known burials. One base was found which once
held a monument. A veteran's marker is lying on the ground near the
others. Another stone bore the Slater inscriptions. This plot was one
of the earlier "back forty" burial spots for the land owner and a few
close neighbors. The burial site lies extended to the east edge of a
small bluff. Several large pines lend their dignity to the total
abandon. Where people once trod, cattle now roam at will over it's
sacred ground.
