SEXTONVILLE CEMETERY

Catalogued October 15 - 16, l974 by H. A. Dieter. Located one fourth mile east of Sextonville on County Trunk B in Section 5, Town of  Buena Vista. This is a well kept cemetery with only two broken markers of the old slab variety. There are many bronze plate monuments, very unique in design and of sturdy non-rusting metal. They seem to have come into popularity between the era of slab models and the early modern granite stones. There are 46 known veterans buried here. Early records had referred to this most pleasant cemetery as being "in the woods" or "out on the hill". The ground was donated by Charles DeVoe Sr. and surveyed in 1852 by Joseph E. Irish. The first burial was that of Phillip H. Miller in 1846. His burial and that of his sister, Sarah J. Janney, occurred before the land was set aside as a public cemetery.
