                                             HERE THEY SLEEP Narrative

HIGGIN'S PLOT

We would like to make this addition to HERE THEY SLEEP, by Herbert A. Dieter. In discussing the John Pugh Plot, he states: "Three other Buck Creek burials were reported on the Thomas Higgins farm, with no names available."  Information by Dr. Keith Brewer and Pat Higgins indicates that they were:  Donald Brewer. A Brewer Girl.  The story is that she had Diphtheria or Typhoid Fever and that she was buried at night. A Brewer woman. A search of the death certificates reveals that Della M. Brewer **, daughter of Charles and Elenor Hawks of New York State, and wife of James Brewer died August 12, 1901of miscarriage and was buried at Buckcreek. She was born April 3, 1864 in New York. We assume that she was the woman referred to. The location is a short distance east of Highway 80, a half mile south of Junction 80 and D, on the Thomas Higgins farm. The graves are unmarked.

** Note: Della M. (Hawks) Brewer has a marker next to her husband James J. Brewer in the Richland Center Cemetery.
